Huichol Woman

Huichol Woman

This piece is second in the Huichol series. This woman, surrounded by traditional Huichol symbols and colors, flashes a rare smile.

The sun is an object of worship and the moon is a symbol of fertility. What appears to be a green flower is actually peyote, a hallucinogenic cactus that plays a major role in religious ceremonies. The eye of the moon is a symbol called “Ojo de Dios” or “Eye of God”. In this piece I tried to portray the feeling of night, because dreams are an important aspect of their faith as well.
